The 70-kilometre Goranska rapsodija road cycling route runs through Zalesina. There, cyclists leave the Lujzijana Road and continue along the historic Karolina tourist road towards Ravna Gora, Mrkopalj and Fužine. The cycling connection through Zalesina links two historic roads: Lujzijana, whose original mountain route dates back to 1811, and Karolina.

Nature

The Zalesina educational and experimental forest covers 735.94 hectares in three management units. The forests are designated for teaching and scientific research, not for regular management.

Within the research forest complex, the Kupjački vrh unit ranges from 670 to 997 metres and contains karst phenomena as well as very steep rock formations. Zeleni vir is located near Zalesina. The surrounding area of Zalesina includes Lisina, Debeli Vrh and Skradski Vrh.

Culture and history

Field-based teaching has been held continuously in Zalesina since 1951. The site includes nine experimental plots used in a national project with permanent experimental plots.

The Maltempo fortress is located in the wider regional surroundings of Zalesina.
