Stara Sušica: Apartments and Holiday Homes
Culture
Stara Sušica Castle is part of the protected historical complex that includes the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua and the surrounding grounds. Today, the castle serves as the educational and cultural center of Dom mladih.
The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua in Stara Sušica dates back to 1874. The replacement chapel remains open to visitors; the Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua is celebrated there on June 13.
Those who choose Stara Sušica as their travel destination may wish to find or rent a holiday apartment.
Nature
The Velike Zvijeri Center is located in Stara Sušica on the old Karolina Road, next to the Frankopan Castle and the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua. A multimedia exhibition there presents facts about bears, wolves, and lynxes and extends across two floors.
The Stara Sušica Center offers visitor reception and visitor education focused on the large carnivore heritage of Gorski kotar. The Velike Zvijeri Visitor Center is a venue for children's workshops and guided activities focused on finding and observing the tracks of large predators in their habitat.
The castle stands 800 meters above sea level in a centuries-old forest with diverse flora and fauna.
Hiking
The Frankopan Trail begins in Stara Sušica at a landscaped pond promenade in a coniferous forest. It then follows the historic Karolina Road, forest paths, and meadows; after approximately 2 km, it reaches the first houses of Vrh. From there, it can be continued toward Javorova Kosa, with its panoramic viewpoint, mountain lodge, and Božji studenac spring.
On the Planinarskim putovima Frankopana hiking loop, Stara Sušica Castle is listed as KT 38.
