Njivice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Njivice includes the beaches of Pod crkvu and Jadran. Jadran is considered a Blue Flag beach on the waterfront promenade; it can be reached on foot and by bicycle, and parking is also available. Pod crkvu is considered a family beach.

Culture and History

The first written mention of Njivice is recorded in a deed of donation by Ivan Frankopan from 1474. Kala is a preserved relic of the oldest settlement area of Njivice and features residential architecture from the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Mohorov is a late antique settlement whose inhabitants practised fishing and metallurgy from the 5th to the 7th century. The settlement can be reached via an unpaved road and then along an easy footpath through the forest. Poje is an ancient Roman villa of the rural type with later Late Antique, Early Christian and early medieval phases. It served both as a luxurious country estate and as an agricultural complex that included olive growing and viticulture.

Trails and Landscape

Staza Cerova is a Njivice–Cerova–Njivice trail intended for all generations. It passes archaeological remains from the Roman period and continues along narrow paths by the sea and past picturesque bays.

Nature

Jezero is Krk’s largest natural freshwater biotope and is important for biodiversity on Krk and in the wider Kvarner area. The Šetnja do Jezera trail leads along paths from Njivice to the plant and animal life around Jezero.

Culinary Delights and Water Sports

Rivica in Njivice has a culinary history dating back to 1934 and is considered a living monument to the local fishing heritage. The culinary offerings in Njivice and Omisalj are connected with the traditions of fishing villages. They include, for example, fresh fish, local olive oil, Krk sheep’s cheese, lamb and Šurlica.
