The official cycling route 443, Stazom Svetog Martin / Baronova staza, runs through Županići. It leads from Sveti Martin via Ružići, Županići, Stepančići, Santalezi, Cere, Markoci, Golji, Snašići, Turini and Paradiž, then returns to Sveti Martin. The area around this route is considered Terra Rossa land covered with vineyards and can be explored by bicycle through villages and hamlets.

Cycling and trails

The official 27-kilometre Saint Martin / Baron's cycling trail is a moderately difficult route with 20 kilometres of asphalt and 7 kilometres of macadam. The estimated cycling time is 3 hours and 30 minutes. It leads from Sveti Martin via Ružići and onwards towards Županići. The 403 Liburnia cycling trail extends to Liburna, a nature reserve for autochthonous animals where sociable donkeys can be seen.

In the municipality of Sveta Nedelja, the Kalića i Bukalete hiking trail combines Istrian vineyards, ponds important for freshwater habitats and traditional Istrian cuisine. The Boksitna Pruga hiking trail follows a former bauxite railway; by prior arrangement, visitors can visit Farma Drijade to encounter the animals. The Šumberske Dine hiking trail explores the Lapor dunes and combines geological phenomena, history and unspoilt landscapes. It is 7.3 kilometres long and also connects natural phenomena, local farms and unspoilt nature.

Nature

Sveta Nedelja lies on a high plateau above the Raša river valley in the hinterland of Labin. Nearby forests and a visitor-oriented green-and-blue landscape character are part of this setting. Reska lokva is one of the ponds located about 2 kilometres from St Catherine's chapel at Agroturism Pineta in Sveti Martin. Near Županići, the Reški kol pond can be visited from the cycling route; the site supports fish and frogs, while the plants in the surrounding area attract butterflies.

Culture and history

Josip Belušić was born on 12 March 1847 in Županići near Labin and invented the velocimeter. The electrical device recorded the speed of vehicles, driving and stopping times, the number of passengers, and their boarding and disembarking times.

The Dubrova Sculpture Park is located next to Stancija Dubrova, which houses the Baroque Franković-Lazzarini Palace. The park comprises 68 sculptures, 16 sections of the White Road, the Dolac Amphitheatre and an information centre. The park is open to visitors around the clock all year round; admission is free, and guided tours for groups are available by prior arrangement.

Local specialities

In Sveti Martin, Agroturism Pineta offers dishes and products from the Radićanin family farm, including honey, homemade juices and jams.
