Kirmenjak: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Kirmenjak stands out for its dinosaur footprints: the Kirmenjak Dinosaur Tracksite comprises 971 footprints, 161 of which form 23 trackways.
Anyone looking to rent a holiday apartment can consider Kirmenjak as a destination.
Nature
Kirmenjak I is listed in western Istria as a protected dinosaur fossil site. The Kirmenjak Dinosaur Tracksite is one of the fossil sites protected by Croatia’s 2021 decision concerning dinosaur fossils and their sites. The footprints are preserved in shallow-marine sediments in a coastal environment.
Kirmenjak is associated with a quarry that operates at several locations south and north of the settlement. It produces light to light-brown Jurassic limestone known for its characteristic stylolitic texture. Kirmenjak stone is also known for its resistance to sea salt.
Culture
The architectural connection to Poreč can be seen in the early Christian Euphrasian Basilica: Kirmenjak stone was used in its construction in the sixth century. In Venice, the same stone was used to build the Rialto Bridge and the Doge’s Palace.
Cycling
Official Trail 162 Faragude Kontija is classified as a moderately difficult route. The route passes through closed sections of the still-active Kirmenjak quarry and reaches the bike park on St. Becic Hill.
This bike park includes XC routes associated with the Poreč cycling club. It also allows riders to complete repeated laps around the hill. Along Trail 162 Faragude Kontija, the MTB Trail Centar San Servolo is designated as a point of interest.
