Lindar: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the Chapel of St Catherine, the fresco of the Living Cross is dated to the year 1409 by a Glagolitic inscription. The chapel is a single-nave Gothic building at the entrance to Lindar.

Culture and History

Lindar’s Glagolitic heritage is reflected in stone inscriptions at several churches and in Glagolitic graffiti on church frescoes. The parish baptismal registers from 1590 to 1667 were also kept in Glagolitic script.

The parish church of St Mohor and Fortunat was built in 1606 on the site of an older church. The parish of St Mohor and Fortunat in Lindar is mentioned in historical records from 1379.

During the restoration of the frescoes in St Catherine’s Church, additional fragments were uncovered on the wall of the sanctuary, including a scene depicting Judas’s kiss.

St Sebastian’s Church was built in 1559 by Lindar resident Ivan Jedrejčić and has a bilingual inscription in two scripts on its façade. Inside are a small wooden altar with a Baroque altarpiece and part of a mural depicting Saint Paul.

St Martin’s Church in the Lindar cemetery preserves a Glagolitic tomb inscription from 1588 for the priest Matušić and is a Romanesque church from the 14th century.
