The local rural architecture is characterized by the consistent use of stone slabs on the roofs, known locally as škrila. From Oprtalj, Zrenj is approximately ten kilometres to the northeast by road.

Culture

The parish church of Saint George in Zrenj is a two-nave Romanesque church with a sanctuary and sacristy; it was extended in 1582. The bell tower of St. George’s Church in the centre of Zrenj offers views across large parts of central Istria. Zrenj is also sometimes associated with the birthplace of Saint Jerome, although this identification is described as unreliable.

Nature

The area around Zrenj is described as rich in flora and fauna and as suitable for hunting. There are small drinking-water springs there called Mali Zahej, Veliki Zahej and Bič. Ravnica and Sveti Stjepan are located near Zrenj. Brajkov Vrh, Kobiljak, Semi and Svi Sveti are located in the surroundings of Zrenj.
