Culinary Delights
The Tuber(food) festival in October offers truffle-themed cooking, themed gastronomic workshops, a children’s programme and sporting activities.
From mid-September to the end of November, the Days of Zigante Truffles take place in Livade. They combine exhibitions of truffle products, an international wine exhibition, truffle hunting in the Motovun Forest and culinary demonstrations.
A bronze replica of the Guinness World Record truffle is on display in the Zigante truffle shop in Livade.
Nature
The Parenzana Trail runs along paths, bridges and viaducts and through light tunnels; it is suitable for hiking, running and cycling. The 123-kilometre-long Parenzana passes through three countries.
A guided ride on a tourist train into the Motovun Forest is also offered, accompanied by a truffle hunter and truffle dogs.
Culture and History
The collection of the Parenzana Museum includes documents, photographs, old postcards, milestones and other objects from railway operations between 1902 and 1935. Original railway facilities are well preserved at Livade station.
Livade station had tracks intended for loading wood, wine and processed stone from the St. Stjepan quarry. Historically, Livade was a transport and trading centre for wine, olive oil and other agricultural products.
From 1933, Livade was the headquarters of the oldest truffle company in the region: Azienda del Tartufo – Sella, Hütterott and C. Levade.
