Å kropeti: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Å kropeti is home to the Church of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac, which was consecrated on 7 May 2010. Construction took place between 1999 and 2010 on the initiative of the residents of Å kropeti, and the church was built through the joint efforts of the local population.

Culture and History

The church preserves relics of Stepinac on its altar. Its features include stained-glass windows and a design with a porch and bell tower; its architecture reflects historical Istrian characteristics of church construction. Most of the architectural elements were inspired by the Euphrasian Basilica.

Four stained-glass windows depict Saint Mauro, Blessed Miroslav Bulešić, John Paul II and Mother Teresa. The church also has an organ with two manuals and a pedal.

Landscape and Trails

An official Istrian road cycling route passes through Å kropeti. Nearby, there is also Trail Montreo (718), a circular hiking trail.

Near Å kropeti lies Sopajac, considered the largest and deepest sinkhole in Istria. The bottom of the sinkhole is difficult to reach because of the rugged terrain and vegetation.

In the wider region, the Put Istarskog razvoda themed trail begins at the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes and features information boards in four languages. Badavca is also located there, a historic border spring with a cross carved in stone and rustic stone monuments.

Nearby, in Rakotule, the Church of Saint Nicholas was built in the 14th century and extended in the 15th century. The church's painted plaster bears a Glagolitic graffiti inscription.

Events

Å kropeti hosts Susreti prijateljstva, a sports and social gathering for people with intellectual disabilities and their friends. The event takes place annually in May as part of the programme for the National Day of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and usually attracts more than 100 participants from schools, social welfare institutions, disability associations and the general public.

The 2023 Škropećanska fešta in Škropeti included an open-air cinema, a small-sided football tournament and entertainment.
