Rakotule: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Rakotule comprises a group of smaller villages and hamlets. When approaching from the main road, the stone bell tower of the parish church is visible; Motovun can also be seen from several places in Rakotule.

Culture and History

The parish church of “St Roch” preserves a stone niche decorated with reliefs from 1560, as well as a visible Romanesque apse arch. It most likely dates from the period when the Rakotule parish was first mentioned, in 1580. A fragment of a fresco from the original parish church of “St Roch”, discovered in 1958, is kept in the Diocesan Museum in Poreč.

The church of “St Magdalene and St Blaise” is located in Pahovići (Konobari) in Rakotule. It was built in the 12th century and rebuilt several times thereafter.

The church of “St Nicholas” was built in the 14th century and extended at the front in the 15th century. Its interior preserves frescoes depicting the Maiestas Domini and scenes from the legends of Saint Nicholas.

Trails

Parenzana is a sports and leisure trail on a restored section of the historic railway line that connected Poreč and Trieste. The route crosses the road between Rakotule and Špinovci near the Sv. Vital or Veli Most viaduct. Visitors can leave a car there and walk approximately 2.5 km towards Vižinada.

Local Traditions

OPG Anton Kramar continues a beekeeping tradition in Rakotule that is more than 100 years old. The Feast of Saint Blaise in Rakotule is considered an annual event held in February, featuring exhibitions of wine, honey and homemade bread.
