Culture and History
Buzet preserves the Vela and Mala town gates from the 16th century. The Church of St. George features a portal dated 1611. Four squares in Buzet are connected by three main streets.
The Velika Cistern is a polygonal late-Baroque structure built in 1789. Bigatto Palace is an example of Mannerist and early Baroque architecture and houses the local museum. The Fontik was built in 1534 and originally served as a granary.
Museum and Local History
The Zavičajni Museum Buzet displays archaeological, historical and ethnographic material connected with old local crafts. The Buzet earring type is represented in 18 finds from the Mejica cemetery and in two finds from Sovinjsko brdo. It is associated with indigenous and Romanized Illyrian-Celtic communities of the early Middle Ages.
Nature and Trails
The Buzet–Kotli–Hum section of the hiking trail is 12 kilometres long; at a leisurely pace, the walking time is approximately four hours. Part of the Buzet–Kotli–Hum–Buzet hiking trail runs along the Mirna River.
A branch of the Buzet–Kotli–Hum–Buzet hiking trail towards Selci leads to the Blizanci Gorge. When the water level is low, it can be crossed along the river.
The Staza tartufina cycling route is associated with the area's truffle landscapes.
Events
Every September, Subotina po starinski transforms the streets and squares of Buzet's old town into a historical stage. During the event, visitors can walk along craft trails where traditional artisans demonstrate time-honoured skills.
The traditional Istrian Truffle Festival is scheduled to take place in Buzet. At this planned festival, visitors can see a truffle exhibition, taste and buy truffles and truffle products, attend the “Buzet on a Plate” culinary show, and take part in the “Truffle Hunt” race, which combines MTB and trekking.
