The Church of Svih Svetih is located in the historic centre of Sesvete. The present-day Baroque church was built from 1766 to 1773 under the patronage of the Zagreb Chapter. In Croatia, it is a rare example of central-plan church architecture with two bell towers on the façade.
Anyone wishing to stay overnight in Sesvete can include renting a holiday apartment in their travel plans.
History
In 1457, Sesvete was granted market rights by King Matthias Corvinus. These included four annual fairs and a weekly market. The Roman road Siscia–Andautonia–Poetovio also ran through what is now the centre of Sesvete. It was one of the few ancient routes that continued to be used in the Middle Ages.
The Muzej Prigorja is located in the protected 18th-century Kurija Zagrebačkog kaptola at Trg D. Domjanića 5 in Sesvete. Its museum structure comprises archaeological, historical, ethnographic and art-historical collections; the permanent exhibition provides a comprehensive picture of the eastern Zagreb area.
Culture
The Centar za kulturu Sesvete regularly organises theatre performances for children and adults as well as classical music concerts. It also offers dance, drama and visual arts workshops. The programme also includes film screenings for children and adults.
Trails and events
The Sesvete–Dobrodol–Šimunčevec–Frčkovec (Goranec)–Lipa hiking trail was opened in 1977. The Sesvete–Lipa winter hike has taken place every January since 2003, while the Sesvete–Lipa summer hike has taken place every August since 2004.
Sesvetski fašnik is a traditional event held at Trg Dragutina Domjanića. For many years, Sesvetski fašnik has been held exclusively in a children’s format.
