Vrataruša is designated as a historic rural architectural ensemble. The Monastery of Saint Helena and its church were built in the mid-14th century. When planning a trip to Vrataruša, you can include renting a holiday apartment.
Culture
Gradina Kokerna is considered a prehistoric archaeological site in Vrataruša. The Pauline Glagolitic Monastery of Saint Helena is considered a ruin and lies below the road at a coastal bay.
Landscape
The Vrataruša Plateau extends approximately across the Adriatic-facing slopes of Velika Kapela between Sibinj and Senj. The Velebit degenia is said to grow on the sun- and wind-exposed rocky terrain of Vrataruša; its flowering period is in April.
Routes
The local road L 59008 connects Vrataruša with road L 59001. In the wider road network of the Senj highlands, there are forest and fire-protection roads that are used as excursion roads and hiking trails. An unpaved road from Klenovica is described as the easiest ascent to the Vrataruša Plateau.
The official MTB route Staza 306 passes through Vrataruša. It runs as a 45-kilometre loop via Bater–Pleteno–Breze–Luka Krmpotska–Alan–Vrataruša–Bile–Bater.
In the immediate surroundings, the Senj hinterland offers organised hiking routes: the 50-kilometre Senjska obilaznica through Krivi Put and Vratnik, marked trails towards Zavižan, routes between Jablanac, Turska vrata, Strogir and Alan, and the 57-kilometre Premužić Trail from Zavižan to Baške.
