Drnje: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Drnje is considered a place on the banks of the Gliboki stream, a tributary of the Drava. A dedicated route for pedestrians and cyclists runs between Drnje and Botovo; the route was completed in December 2024.

Nature

The Mura-Drava Regional Park extends across approximately one quarter of the municipality of Drnje. In the Drnje municipal plan, Gornji tok Drave is designated both as a Natura 2000 site for the protection of habitats and species and as a bird protection area.

History

The historic centre of Drnje includes the parish church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and its parish house, dating from the first half of the 19th century. The church is considered to have been designed with simplified Baroque-Classical elements and to have been built in 1846 – on the site of two earlier wooden churches. The heritage also includes the former saltworks from 1789, a Military Frontier building from the 1790s, the wayside chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk on S. Pašice Street, the Calvary monument and the central park.

Kaštel Drnje is a medieval fortified site from the 16th century in Židovaroš, south of the Gliboki stream and within an old meander. West of Drnje lies Cege, an early medieval settlement site dated approximately to the 9th–10th century; it is located between the road and the Gliboki stream.

Culture

Torčec is home to Torčec–Crkvišće, a medieval site of sacred architecture and a necropolis dating from the 14th to the 16th century, as well as the Church of Saint Stephen the King site, with the remains of an older chapel and an old cemetery. Torčec is considered a rural settlement with preserved traditional rural features.

Festivals and Cuisine

Torčansko Ivanje in Torčec is an annual Midsummer’s Eve bonfire event welcoming residents and visitors. The festival includes local lepinje, goulash prepared by the Drnje Hunting Association, and an open day at the Torčec fire brigade.

Drnjansko Đurđevo is considered a recurring festival in Drnje associated with the tradition of venerating Saint George; the 2024 edition was the 24th. The Drnjansko Gulašijada is considered a traditional cooking competition in the park in Drnje.

Leisure

The karting facilities include kart rental and track rental; there are also options for team-building events, birthday parties and karting schools.
