Getting There

The ferry crossing between Sumartin and Makarska takes approximately 60 minutes.

Culture

The Franciscan monastery and the adjacent church form a historic complex in Sumartin. The monastery preserves Baroque paintings, a 17th- and 18th-century archive containing registers written in Bosančica, and an extensive library. The present-day church was built between 1911 and 1913.

The birthplace of the fishing innovator Mario Puratić, who was born in Sumartin, is also part of the local culture of remembrance. It is associated with the Puretic Power Block, an invention for hauling in fishing nets, and holds significance in the settlement’s collective memory.

During the fighting of the Second World War, Lučica Cave provided shelter for the inhabitants of Sumartin. The Lučica sanctuary is located in a natural cave in Lučica Bay near Sumartin. Lučica Cave is also a small shrine on the coast between Sumartin and Selca.

Coast

Jezero Beach is partly a pebble beach and partly a rocky beach. There is a shower and natural shade from trees.

Riva Beach is a pebble beach with shallow, calm waters. It is located in the centre of Sumartin, close to restaurants and children’s playgrounds. Baywatch Beach is also a pebble beach and is suitable for families with children.

Lučica Beach is surrounded by a pine forest and is approximately ten minutes from the centre of Sumartin.

Trails

The Via Brattia passes through Sumartin. Hiking trails run through old olive groves and vineyards.

In the surrounding area, a coastal route passes several bays before reaching the partially abandoned settlement of Rasotica.
