Culture and History

The Church of St Nicholas in Maritsa dates back to the 16th century and has medieval origins. It contains murals that have been designated as a cultural monument of national importance.

The newer Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Maritsa was built in 1907; three chapels are located near the village. The church is a parish church in Maritsa. Its 110th anniversary was celebrated in 2017 with a liturgy and a blessing ceremony.
