The protection of wild birds is also part of the municipality’s natural profile. The Natura 2000 protected area “West Balkan,” code BG0002002, lies within its boundaries. It protects wild birds under Directive 79/409. In the village of Georgi Damyanovo is the Lopushanski Monastery “St. John the Baptist,” a national cultural monument and an active men’s monastery. Its church is the third-largest monastery church in Bulgaria. Also in the centre of Georgi Damyanovo is the “Georgi Damyanov” house museum. It presents different stages of Georgi Damyanov’s life and career, complementing the architectural and monastic history with biographical themes.
