Peyna: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The Dryanovo Monastery is one of Bulgaria’s 100 national tourist sites. The Peyna complex is located near the ancient Roman market of Diskoduratera, whose remains are still visible. Diskoduratera was declared a cultural monument of national importance in 1967.

The Church of St. Nicholas is still active, has the status of a cultural monument of national importance, and was restored in 2000. It was built in 1851 on the foundations of an older church and is described as Kolyu Fichet’s first attempt to develop his own style. Its murals date from 1926; three icons in the iconostasis were created by Stanislav Dospevski.

In Zaya, the ethnographic collection “Rural Life in the Dryanovo Region” was established in 2010. It presents domestic life, a hearth, clothing, women’s handicrafts, men’s handicrafts, and agriculture.

Nature

Bacho Kiro Cave has been designated a natural landmark since 1962. Near Boruna Fortress, the Dryanovo educational eco-trail has three viewpoints offering a panorama towards the Dryanovo Monastery. At the same time, the wooden bridges and stairs of the Dryanovo educational eco-trail are currently impassable.

The area around the Dryanovo Monastery’s via ferrata is associated with Degenov dill, cyclamens, around twelve bat species, mouflons, foxes, roe deer, and fire salamanders.

Activities

A 10-kilometre cycling route leads from Dryanovo via Tsareva Livada and Docha to the Strinava Plateau and onward to the Dryanovo Monastery. The area around the monastery is also associated with climbing using single-rope alpine technique; the rocks there reach heights of up to 80 metres.

The Peyna accommodation complex is accessible by car. Peyna has the Starobulgarian holiday complex “Peyna”, consisting of the “Peyna” complex and the “Chernitsata” house. The Peyna guesthouse has an equipped kitchen, heating, a private bathroom, a television, a terrace, and a refrigerator.
