Kereka: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kereka combines cultural heritage with documented cycling routes. On the municipal route “Revival church architecture”, you can reach the “Blagoveshtenie” Church in Kereka, which dates back to 1847. If the church authorities do not allow access, it may only be possible to view it from the façade. The town’s architectural heritage also includes old, large and well-preserved houses. Kereka is also home to the preserved birthplace of the Bulgarian writer Kamen Kalchev. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Kereka can then continue searching for accommodation.

Culture

The Napredak Community Cultural Centre in Kereka was founded on 1 January 1884. The Napredak-1884 Community Cultural Centre is active in the town. Kereka is also home to Bulgaria’s oldest monument to Saints Cyril and Methodius, created in 1885. Another monument in Kereka commemorates two local participants in the 1876 fighting at Dryanovo Monastery; it was unveiled in 1976. The local celebration is held on 11 May.

Cycling

The Kereka Cup 2021 featured a 23.5-kilometre road cycling route from Kereka via Pushevo and Shemshevo back to Kereka. In the cycling category of the Kereka Cup 2021, participants rode a 24-kilometre Kereka–Pushevo–Shemshevo–Kereka route that included a climb on a marked forest road. The Veliko Tarnovo–Dryanovo Monastery cycling route also passes through Kereka and the surrounding area. This one-day route is described as a relaxed option for beginners, families with children and people with disabilities.

Surroundings

The Dryanovo area is associated with the landscape of the Balkan Mountains and characteristic Balkan houses; some of these houses are more than 200 years old.
