Tyulenovo: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Tyulenovo is characterised by red, steep cliffs along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast that drop at least 20–30 metres to the sea. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Tyulenovo can then continue their search for accommodation.

Coast

The coast consists of reefs, steep sea cliffs, endemic Limonium vegetation, unexplored caves, and underwater or partially submerged sea caves. The named coastal areas include Ashalak, Kipria, Dupkata and Martina; deeper holes are mentioned at Martina, Samotnika and Samotnata Kanara.

The rocky coasts north and south of Tyulenovo, together with the adjoining steppe and marine waters, form parts of the Kaliakra and Complex Kaliakra Natura 2000 sites. The rocky seashores of Tyulenovo are breeding grounds for the European Shag (Crested Cormorant) and a key habitat of the Black-eared Wheatear.

Nature

Rock Bridge in the territory of Tyulenovo has been declared a protected natural landmark. The natural landmark covers 2,424 decares. Rock Bridge resembles a natural arch between the sea and the land and is described as having no comparable counterpart on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast.

Sea fennel, as well as the local species бисерова змийска трева, татарска змийска трева and Калиакренско плюскавиче, have been recorded on Tyulenovo’s high rocky shore. The area around Tyulenovo forms part of the Kaliakra Important Bird Area, which is described as the only place in Bulgaria where remnants of the Dobruja Steppe have been preserved.

Culture

Tyulenovo is recorded as having received its name in 1942 because colonies of Mediterranean monk seals were present in an environment of surf, caves, low cliffs and winds that suited them.

Activities

The small coastal bays of Tyulenovo are associated with opportunities for scuba diving and fishing. Visitors can rent a boat from locals for a trip to the caves. A completed municipal project created a recreational and observation area overlooking the sea and rocks, with a small amphitheatre and a pedestrian staircase to the pier.

An asphalt road provides access to Tyulenovo, although the access infrastructure is described as needing renovation. Camping is prohibited within the Rock Bridge natural landmark.
