The dry valleys around Bozhanovo form part of the protected Natura 2000 area “Kraymorska Dobrudzha”, which preserves shrub communities, open calcareous plant communities and Pontic-Sarmatian steppe habitats. Landscape and Nature

The open calcareous plant communities near Bozhanovo include rocky areas with lichens, mosses and Sedum species. The shrub communities near Bozhanovo are home to the dwarf almond, a species of high conservation value. The Pontic-Sarmatian steppe vegetation near Bozhanovo includes Stipa pennata agg., Stipa capillata, Chrysopogon gryllus, Dischanthium ischaemum, Agropyron brandzae, Koeleria brevis, Satureja coerulea and Thymus zygoides.

The “Shabla Lake” protected area encompasses Lake Shabla and Lake Ezetsersko, which are connected by a canal. The “Shabla Lake” reserve is home to 247 recorded bird species. The globally threatened corn crake and ferruginous duck breed in the “Shabla Lake” protected area.

The Durankulak–Hamangia archaeological complex is located on Lake Durankulak and includes the “Great Island” settlement mound and associated necropolises. The Durankulak–Hamangia archaeological route includes walking tours and virtual tours of the archaeological sites; the route also offers the opportunity to observe dozens of bird species.
