Opetci is one of the settlements in the Sućeska region. The Sućeska area is hilly and lies away from the main transport routes; to the south, it is bordered by the canyon of the Zeleni Jadar River. Culture and History

One of the notable historical sites is Kličevac. The remains of the medieval town lie on the right bank of the Zeleni Jadar River, not far from the present-day village of Sućeska. The Sase Monastery also points to a long history: it was built in the mid-14th century.

The Sućeska Jamaat community traditionally organizes a religious commemorative program every year in July at various locations within the local community for the people killed during the 1992–1995 war. In Opetci, a Shahid Dua was held in memory of the victims killed in the Srebrenica genocide. At a commemorative event in Opetci, Yasin and Tevhid were recited for the victims of the past war.

Nature and Landscape

Drina National Park covers approximately 6,300 hectares in the municipality of Srebrenica. It is known for the canyon of the Drina River, viewpoints offering unique vistas, and extensive forests where the rare Pančić spruce grows. Thus, alongside the landscape shaped by the Zeleni Jadar, expansive forest and river areas are also central features.

Hiking and Trails

Reaching the medieval town of Kličevac requires a hike of approximately eight kilometers there and back. The trail leads through very rugged terrain characterized by depressions and steep slopes and crosses the Zeleni Jadar River. A different route is described by the walking path leading to the Guber excursion site: it runs through an untouched natural landscape with coniferous and deciduous forests.

Local Character

In Opetci, beekeeping is associated with specific products and a long family tradition. A beekeeper from Opetci produces royal jelly and queen bees; his honey received a total of eight gold medals for its quality. Opetci is also home to a family beekeeping tradition spanning more than 150 years.

Agriculture is also part of the local history. After returning in 2001, the family of Asim Bećirović farmed in Opetci, including milk production. Asim Bećirović’s farm in Opetci produced 70,000 liters of milk annually.

Getting Around Locally

Opetci is located on a first-priority road in the Sućeska local community. This road is required to be maintained in winter and is used to transport students and employees. The different routes and landscapes remain clearly distinct: access to Kličevac leads through challenging terrain, while the walking path to the Guber excursion site runs through coniferous and deciduous forests.
