Klokot is closely connected with its spring and the river of the same name. The aquatic landscape takes center stage; other features of the settlement appear in individual places.

Nature

The Klokot spring is one of the largest karst springs in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Klokot River is a left-bank tributary of the Una and flows through the settlement of Klokot. It is a typical mountain river; its average water temperature is between 8 and 10 °C.

Along almost its entire course, the Klokot flows past meadows and pastures. The spring area of the Klokot is surrounded by dense evergreen vegetation. The source of the Klokot River is among the natural monuments of Una-Sana Canton. Thus, the river course includes both open landscapes and a densely vegetated spring area, while the spring itself also holds a designated place among the canton’s natural monuments.

Four speleological sites were identified in the immediate vicinity of the Klokot spring in 1986. Above the Klokot spring, there is a cave in a rock face. The two spatial descriptions distinguish the area around the spring from the rock face located above it and refer to different natural features.

Activities

On the left bank of the Klokot, immediately downstream from the pumping station, Bihać uses a municipal recreational area. An access road to the Klokot recreational area runs beside the pumping station grounds. The riverbank, the downstream location, and access via the road are therefore directly associated with this recreational area.

The Klokot fishing grounds are divided into two sections. The first section near the spring is 2,210 m long and reserved exclusively for fly fishing; other fishing techniques are permitted in the second section. The division concerns both the location of the sections and the fishing techniques permitted there.

Culture and History

In the settlement of Klokot near Bihać, there is an authentic old Bosnian house that is more than 230 years old. With its age and designation as an authentic old Bosnian house, this individual building represents a specific cultural feature alongside the area’s natural and fishing-related attractions.
