A notable starting point for exploring the history of Lukavac is Vila Solvay. The building was constructed in 1911/1912 and was originally intended as a healthcare facility, not as a residential building. Culture

The Catholic Church of Crkva Sv. Ante Padovanskog and its parish house are also part of Lukavac’s architectural history. Both buildings were designed by Karl Paržik and Florijan Strauss. Crkva Sv. Ante Padovanskog in Lukavac was built between 1928 and 1930. The group of buildings comprising the church and parish house was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the session held from 4 to 6 November 2015. Thus, when considering the town, the focus is not only on individual structures but also on their classification together as a protected group of buildings.

History

A second historical trail leads to Stara Željeznička stanica. It is the oldest surviving infrastructure building in Lukavac from the Austro-Hungarian period and dates from 1894. The station is located at Prva ulica 3, south of the centre of Lukavac. It was built on the Doboj–Simin Han narrow-gauge railway line, whose construction continued until 29 April 1886. Independently of this, Lukavac lies on the Tuzla–Doboj railway line. The places and railway lines mentioned therefore link several historical dates, without their respective construction and origin dates being equated.

Geographical Setting

The municipality of Lukavac includes the town of Modrac. Lake Modrac was created there in 1964 through the construction of a dam on the Spreča River. The lake is therefore not described as a naturally formed body of water but is directly connected with this construction on the river. The reference to Modrac adds a clearly identified landscape and body-of-water feature within the municipality to the town’s history.
