Virton combines cultural history, varied walking trails and longer hiking experiences with the distinctive traditions of the Gaume region. Culture, urban trails and regional history

A good starting point for cultural discoveries is the Musée gaumais. It preserves and presents numerous examples of the region’s cultural, historical, artistic and natural heritage. The Église Saint-Laurent de Virton is a neoclassical church. It was opened for worship in 1834 and is associated with the entrepreneur Jacques-Modeste Guillemard de Longwy. The Promenade dans le centre de Virton also offers two circuits: the first leads through the town centre and takes about an hour, while the second connects the centre with the surrounding area, follows the RAVeL and takes about an hour and a half.

For a manageable circular hike, the 6.5-kilometre Sentier Bayard is a good option. It connects the Sentier des Songes with the Sentier des Fées. A puzzle game runs along the entire route, accompanied by the book Grimoire de Maugis. The Sentier des Fées is a 1.5-kilometre walking trail around the legendary Rocher des Fées. Sculptures made from natural materials line the route, which also features nine challenges. The regional cuisine and local customs are also part of Virton’s character. Since the middle of the 20th century, the town has held the Concours du Roi du Pâté Gaumais every year on 26 December.
