Discover Tellin: Bell Founding and Limestone Landscapes
Accommodation in Tellin
Tellin appeals to travellers who want to discover cultural history and a distinctive limestone landscape. The former bell foundry, historic churches and trails through valleys and woodland each offer something different. When choosing a holiday rental, it is therefore worth considering what you want to shape your stay: craft heritage, religious art, geology or a challenging hike.
Bell founding and historic sites
The former bell foundry in Tellin is classified as industrial heritage. The Causard-Slégers bell foundry operated from 1832 to 1970 and produced thousands of bells. This history gives the industrial heritage a tangible scale. Groups must book in advance to visit the former bell foundry. So if you are planning a group visit, make arrangements ahead of time.
The Spanish House in Grupont was a former inn and served as the seat of the court for several centuries. In Bure, the present-day Church of Saint Lambert was built in 1738 and has been protected as a historic monument since 1948. Its furnishings include a repoussé brass Stations of the Cross, created by Joseph Gillain in 1938–40. The building’s history, its protected status and its artwork represent different historical periods.
The Chapel of Notre-Dame de Haurt is also known as Notre-Dame de Bure. A long avenue of lime trees leads to it. Both names are therefore useful for finding your way, while the avenue of lime trees also shapes the description of the chapel’s setting.
Walking trails, views and limestone nature
The Géobalade de Tellin runs between Resteigne and Belvaux, through the Lesse Valley and the Bois de Niau. The route also showcases Devonian limestone as a defining feature of the Geopark. Valley, woodland and geology are all themes of this walk. The natural areas also offer a variety of points of interest: the Ellinchamps forest reserve includes a botanically notable limestone beech forest with a diverse local flora. The Réserve naturelle de Lorinchamps nature reserve covers 2.88 hectares and lies in the Calestienne, an extensive limestone region. The Calestienne is rich in karst features such as caves, sinkholes and springs.
The Promenade des Hauts de Lesse is an 11 km walking trail rated as difficult. The Rocher à Pic viewpoint can be reached via this waymarked trail and offers panoramic views of the Lesse and Resteigne. The trail to the viewpoint starts at the Tellin tourist office. The Promenade gives you specific information about the length and difficulty of the walk, while the Rocher à Pic is all about the view.
