Soy – Discover Culture and Hiking Trails
Soy is a destination for anyone who wants to combine their stay with historic buildings, small sacred attractions, and signposted hikes. The history of the village is reflected in striking details: the Château-ferme de Soy, the Église Saint-Martin, and the Chapelle Saint-Roch. In addition, there are two clearly described hiking trails of different lengths. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Soy, you can therefore plan your stay around the experiences that matter most to you and your family.
Historic Buildings as Special Discoveries
The Château-ferme de Soy combines several historic structural elements and materials. The building is made of brick and bluestone and stands on foundations dating from the 18th century. Its Gothic limestone residential building dates from the 16th century. By decree of 30 October 1989, heritage protection was extended to the façades and roofs of the stables located on either side of the entrance gate, as well as to the barn and the stables adjoining it to the south. These individual architectural features make the Château-ferme a worthwhile destination for travellers who want to take a closer look when visiting the village.
The Église Saint-Martin also tells the story of several construction phases. It was built in 1633, restored in 1858, and rebuilt in the neoclassical style. Anyone interested in church architecture and local history will find another specific point of interest here for planning a culturally themed day. The Chapelle Saint-Roch adds its own history to this impression: it was built in 1606 in the cemetery of the plague victims and completed in 1607. It was restored in the 18th century; in 1896, it was rebuilt approximately 100 metres from the original chapel.
Signposted Hiking Trails with Different Characteristics
Two signposted routes are available in Soy for active days. The La Fange hiking route is 8.5 kilometres long and begins at the Chapelle du Ry del Val in Soy, at the car park by the football pitch. This makes it easy to plan the route as a programme item in its own right, without confusing it with a sight or a circular trail.
Les Roches, on the other hand, is a 12.09-kilometre signposted circular hiking trail. It begins and ends at Place Troquet in Soy. Hikers are also encouraged to visit the Chapelle Saint-Roch along this route. This gives the chapel a clear connection to one of the hiking experiences described, in addition to its historical significance. Depending on the desired trail length, you can plan your day around La Fange or Les Roches.
A Distinctive Culinary Note
A journey of discovery also includes a look at special local offerings. Brasserie Fantôme offers various flavoured beers under the name “Saison d'Erezée”, including varieties with lime blossom, chamomile, apple juice, or juniper. This selection adds an unusual flavour to your travel plans and may appeal to visitors who want to discover regional drinks in addition to buildings and hiking trails.
