History around the Quartier du Fort

A circular route in the Quartier du Fort reveals the last traces and remains of Chiny’s comital castrum. Educational panels introduce the medieval history and show how the present-day layout of the sites relates to their possible form in the Middle Ages. The various archaeological excavation campaigns are also part of this historical approach. The history of the town also includes the Pont Saint-Nicolas. Its past is connected with the Counts of Chiny from the 10th to the 14th century. Since 1990, Chiny has hosted the Festival interculturel du Conte de Chiny every year. For families, La Cour des contes offers an activity focused on imagination and the five senses from September to May on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays by reservation. Stories are told afterwards. Semois, Forest and Marked Trails

On both sides of the Semois, Chiny has steeply sloping terrain. Chiny Forest offers good opportunities to observe the rich and still peaceful wildlife and plant life. The Semois itself is also a defining natural feature: its aquatic flora is rich in species, and in May the river is covered with water crowfoot.

In and around Chiny, there are more than 200 km of marked hiking trails along the Semois and the Vierre. The individual trails are between 2 and 13 km long; by combining them, longer hikes are also possible. There are two launch points for kayaking on the Semois in Chiny: the Pont Saint-Nicolas and the Embarcadère.
