Daverdisse: Discover forests, trails and culture

Daverdisse combines extensive forests, the Lesse flowing through the village and a remarkable cultural history. The traditional architecture made of stone and slate gives the village its own character. At the same time, Daverdisse is one of the nine municipalities that joined forces to create the Parc naturel de l'Ardenne méridionale. Hiking between the Lesse, Almache and Chicheron

Several described trails focus on different aspects. The D2 – Les Deux Rives hike offers parking and starting points at the Centre touristique de Daverdisse or at the Pont des Barbouillons. This means that planning can already be based on a specific starting point before setting off. D4 – Landrifontaine – Chicheron successively takes in the Franc Ri, the Lesse and the Chicheron. Route D5 – Boiserie follows the Boiseri stream to its source. Those who prefer a precisely measured route will find a 3-kilometre section along the Almache with D6 – Autour de l'Almache.

Daverdisse is also a stopping point on the wider regional hiking network: the Transardennaise includes a 22.8-kilometre stage from Mirwart to Daverdisse and has one variant. The different routes make it possible to tailor the travel plans to the landscape impressions, route and desired daily structure, without fitting all the experiences into a single programme.

RAVeL and mountain bike circuit

For cycling travellers, the Daverdisse–Neupont RAVeL section runs from the former Redu railway station to the Moulin de Daverdisse. At the Passerelle Maria, the section crosses the Lesse. The Circuit du Bois de Daverdisse, on the other hand, is described as a 24-kilometre mountain bike loop. This provides a linear connection and a designated circular route as different points of reference for choosing your own activity.

Church, grotto and historical traces

Daverdisse is home to the Saint-Pierre church, a neoclassical building dating from 1847. Its choir contains the polychrome altarpiece of Daverdisse from the 16th century. It connects the architectural history of the church with an older sacred work of art. The Grotte de Notre-Dame de Lourdes in Daverdisse was built in 1902 as a replica of the famous Grotte de Massabielle in Lourdes. A pilgrimage event on 8 September has been documented there since 1903.

Further traces tell the story of the village. The Ancien Château des Seigneurs de Daverdisse, a historic residential building, was damaged by fire in 1829 and rebuilt several times. Today, it is a private home. The La Fontaine Bert site is also located on Rue du Château, near the location of a former pond that has since disappeared. Le Vieux Tilleul is a notable tree and forms part of Wallonia's immovable cultural heritage.
