History

Yuzef Bishevsky had a Neo-Renaissance-style palace built in Lyntupy based on a design by the Polish-Lithuanian architect Tadeusz Rostworowski. The formal area of the Bishevsky estate and park complex comprises a parterre, a brick arched bridge, a chapel, a service wing, and a brewery.

The estate complex in Lyntupy began to take shape in the late 18th century, when it was owned by the Gilzen family. On 9 October 1486, Anna Dolgiridowna, the wife of Ivashka Ilyinich, founded an altar in her church in Lyntupy, dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, and Saint George. Her husband also bequeathed to the church a tithe of grain and garden produce from his estates in Komarovo and Markovo.

Landscape

Bishevsky Park is a six-hectare landscape and formal garden with four ponds and connecting canals along the Lyntupka. The main pond has a granite embankment with steps, and various tree species grow in the park.

The Nevaišių Kalnas hill lies in the wider regional surroundings of Lyntupy. The Blue Lakes eco-trail is part of the wider excursion context of Lyntupy.

Traditions

In Lyntupy, the Catholic festival in honour of Saint Anna, “Hanna”, has been held annually since approximately the 18th century. The programme includes a procession around the church, a church service, and then a market in the main square.
