Nature

Belovezhskaya Pushcha is one of the largest forest areas in the European lowlands and has been preserved in a comparatively undisturbed state. The area covers 163,505 hectares and is located in the Grodno and Brest regions.

Dikoe Bog has been preserved in an almost natural state and is one of the largest mesotrophic lowland bogs in Europe. It extends across the Pruzhany District in the Brest Region, covering approximately 5,000 hectares, and across the Svisloch District in the Grodno Region, covering approximately 2,400 hectares. The part of Dikoe Bog located in the Pruzhany District covers approximately 5,000 hectares.

The Dikoe lowland bog lies in the drainage basins of the Yaselda and Narew rivers. At the same time, Dikoe is a hydrological nature reserve of national significance. The reserve belongs to Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park and has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In large enclosures in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, visitors can see animals from the reserve, including European bison.

Excursions and Experiences

Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park offers relaxing hiking and cycling routes. Carriage rides, bicycle tours, and trips on a small railway are also available. Nature-oriented excursion routes and ecological educational walks round out the offerings; excursions are possible on foot, by bicycle, and by car.

A 45-kilometer route through Belovezhskaya Pushcha was developed for tourist groups arriving from Poland by bicycle via the Pererov tourist border crossing.

On a cycling route through Belovezhskaya Pushcha, visitors can see a 600-year-old giant oak and a 350-year-old Queen Pine. They can then purchase tickets at the sales area for the Estate of the Belarusian Father Frost and explore the entertainment complex independently or with a guided group for one hour.

The Estate of the Belarusian Father Frost covers an area of 15 hectares. Visitors can meet Father Frost there in Belovezhskaya Pushcha year-round.

Culture and History

Part of Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park lies in the Pruzhany District. The historic architectural heritage of the wider district includes the 16th–18th-century palace complex of the Sapieha princes in Ruzhany, the Dominican Church of the Holy Trinity, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, and the Basilian monastery. Other sites include the Missionary Church and Missionary Monastery in the village of Lyskovo, dating from 1763–1785; the ruins of Lyskovo Castle from the 15th–16th centuries; the wooden bell tower in Shereshevo, built in 1799; and historic parks of former manor estates in Pruzhany, Kashtanovka, and Stary Kuplin.

The Tsar's Road opened in 1903, was formerly a military-strategic road, and connects the Belarusian town of Pruzhany with Hajnówka in Poland. The preserved bridges along the Tsar's Road date from the time of Alexander III; their decorations featuring double-headed eagles were destroyed in the 1920s and have since been restored.
