Culture

The collections of the Starodorozhsky Historical-Ethnographic Museum include paintings by I. N. Stasevich, works by Belarusian graphic artists and medallists A. Kashkurevich, E. Tikhonovich, S. Gerus and S. Gorbunova, as well as wooden sculptures by the carver I. Lisuro. The “History of Roads and Postal Services” exhibition reconstructs a postmaster’s office, a forge and an inn. The permanent exhibition of the same name is spread across three halls.

The museum’s exhibition hall hosts exhibitions, presentations, master classes, lectures and guided tours. The Anatoly Bely Art Museum in Staryye Dorogi is housed in four two-storey buildings combined under one roof and has around 500 square metres of exhibition space, eight thematic halls and approximately 4,000 exhibits.

History

The wooden Church of St Nicholas the Wonderworker in Staryye Dorogi is active and was built between 1991 and 1993. A Way of the Cross arrived at the church grounds and was received there by numerous parishioners and pilgrims from neighbouring communities.

The water tower in Staryye Dorogi was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and is part of a tourist sightseeing route. Nine children, including boys, currently learn weaving at the “Udalitsa” studio. The Starodorozhsky District is considered the home of Ruchowsker carpets, which have been included on the list of intangible cultural heritage, and is known for its weaving traditions. These traditions are preserved and further developed at the Starodorozhsky Craft Center.

Places

The Aquarius sculpture stands on the slope of the Solyanka River embankment; safe access to it is practically impossible.

In the area around Staryye Dorogi railway station, there is a red-brick water tower and a goods shed, regarded as prominent examples of the industrial architecture of their time.
