Discover Neustift in the Stubai Valley: Glaciers, Trails and Culture

Neustift in the Stubai Valley offers a wide range of options for planning your trip: glacier experiences, trails along the Ruetz, mountain tours, climbing routes and insights into the valley’s farming past. This allows you to shape your stay around your interests – with active days in the mountains, walks by the water or a cultural excursion. When looking for a holiday apartment or other accommodation in Neustift, you can therefore first consider which of these experiences should be the focus of your trip.

Glacier experiences with seasonal options

The Stubai Glacier is open for around ten months of the year. Skiing is possible there from mid-October to May. From July to mid-September, the glacier is a destination for families, hikers and via ferrata enthusiasts. For the 2026 season, the following also applied during the full summer operation from 4 July to 6 September 2026: Access to the TOP OF TYROL viewing platform at 3,210 m was possible. If you choose your holiday apartment based on your preferred travel period, this seasonal distinction is an important point of reference.

At the Eisgrat on the Stubai Glacier, there is a playground for children’s summer activities. This means that, in addition to mountain and landscape impressions, a glacier day can also include an activity specifically aimed at children. The summer months mentioned also offer opportunities for hikers and via ferrata enthusiasts, while the period from mid-October to May focuses on skiing.

Trails by the water and at the Elfer

For a more relaxed tour, the riverside trail leads from the Neustift leisure centre or the Elfer lifts along the Ruetz towards Milders or Kampler See. This gives you a concrete opportunity to include the area by the water in your day’s plans. At the Elfer, there is also the natural EinsEinser Trail, which is 4 km long. In the Elfer area and in the Pinnistal valley, there are short hiking routes for families as well as extended high-altitude hikes. You can therefore choose between a shorter hiking idea and a longer tour without treating the two options as equivalent.

There are several via ferratas and climbing routes at the Elfer, and the starting points are easy to reach. For days focused on mountain sports, this area complements the hiking options with another form of active experience.

Culture and special mountain stories

A cultural counterpoint to the nature experiences is the Forsterhaus in Kampl, which has been documented in records since 1667. The Forsterhaus Local Heritage Museum focuses on farming tools, trades associated with itinerant craftwork, such as shoemaking, tailoring and weaving, as well as furnishings typical of the valley. These topics make a visit an opportunity to learn about the region’s past through specific working environments and everyday objects.

The Milderer Almentrail also has its own distinctive character. The trail run passes four alpine pastures and the natural highlights of Hühnerspiel and Kartnall. An initial section was part of the 2023 Mountain Running and Trail Running World Championships in Innsbruck-Stubai. For your trip planning, you can therefore view this trail as a longer alpine undertaking, while the riverside trail and short hiking routes offer a different kind of day.

Choose Neustift as your base

Bus route 590 connects Neustift with Innsbruck. There is also a direct bus connection to the Milderer Almentrail from Innsbruck Central Station to the Neustift Freizeitzentrum stop. This aspect may be relevant when choosing your holiday apartment if you want to combine days in the mountains with a visit to Innsbruck or include the Milderer Almentrail in your plans.

To compare other destinations, you can also view Navis, Mutters, Trins, Götzens, Gemeinde in Tirol, Gries Am Brenner, Pettnau and Gschnitz.
