Strohmarkt: Schusterhaus and NaturWaldWeg
Accommodation in Strohmarkt
In Strohmarkt, a long history of a house meets specific route connections. The Schusterhaus “Niederbach” dates back four hundred years; at the same time, the NaturWaldWeg stage from Göstling to Hollenstein passes through the district. This offers different starting points for planning a trip: cultural heritage in the village and trails that reveal the landscape and route.
A House with a Long History
The Schusterhaus “Niederbach” is located at Strohmarkt No. 2 and has a four-hundred-year history. It has been preserved and is maintained and occupied as a home by the Eibner family. The combination of its historic age and continued residential use brings local history to life: the house is part of everyday life and, at the same time, a notable piece of local heritage.
Trails through Strohmarkt
The NaturWaldWeg stage from Göstling to Hollenstein passes through the district of Strohmarkt. There, the local road meets the B 25, the Erlauftalstraße. The stage alternates between asphalt, forest roads, woodland trails, and alpine pastureland. These different surfaces give a concrete impression of the route; check local trail conditions before setting out.
The route branches onto the road signposted “7Hütten” to the Siebenhütten; from there, the Wasserfallweg leads through a gorge-like forest. Signposts, woodland, and the gorge characterize different sections of the stage, giving the route description more than just a scenic dimension.
A trail description published in 2010 gives an approximate walking time of 30 minutes for a partly paved route from Strohmarkt near Göstling to the buildings of the Schwölleckau-Alm at an altitude of 800 meters. This walking time is an estimate. By comparison, the NaturWaldWeg is defined primarily by its route and changing surfaces, while the trail to the alpine pasture provides a time estimate for orientation.
Culture and Activities in Göstling
In Göstling, the Mendlingtal adventure world tells the story of lumberjacks, charcoal burners, and blacksmith apprentices along the themed trail “Auf dem Holzweg.” Gorges, winding streams, and a diverse range of plant life characterize the surroundings. This brings both former working lives and waterways and plants into focus. Opening is seasonal; check current opening hours before your visit.
In the alpine area of Göstling, the Hochkar ski area has 19 kilometers of pistes and lies at an altitude of 1,380 to 1,800 meters. Beginners, experts, and freeriders can ski there. The extent of the pistes and the altitude provide concrete points of reference for planning; snow and lift conditions vary by season and should be checked for your travel dates.
The 111-kilometer Ybbstalradweg runs through Göstling an der Ybbs and connects the Danube with Lake Lunz. Its length and endpoints make the overall route clear, while Göstling is one section of this connection.
The hiking route, ski area, and cycle path can each be assessed using different features: for hiking, the route and surface; for skiing, piste kilometers and altitude; for cycling, the total length and endpoints. This lets you first decide what kind of holiday you want and then tailor your search for a holiday apartment accordingly.
