Röschitz combines winegrowing, historic buildings and unusual insights into rural life. Those who want to shape a trip around culture, regional enjoyment and activity will find various points of interest here: from the parish church and a private museum to paths through gentle hilly landscapes. A holiday apartment in Röschitz can serve as a base if you would like to get to know the unique character of this wine-growing town at your own pace.

Art and History in the Town

An important cultural landmark is the parish church dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The present elevated hall church was built by Leopold Wisgrill from 1768 to 1783. Inside, Martin Johann Schmidt created the high altar painting and the altarpiece for the Nepomuk altar in 1781. For visitors interested in culture, the church offers a tangible insight into Röschitz’s art history.

At the western entrance to the town stands the Trinity Chapel, a single-nave Baroque building dating from 1681 and oriented towards the south. It was built by the citizens of Röschitz in gratitude for the end of the plague. The founders Paul Wögerath and Jakob Marihart were buried in the chapel. In front of the building there is also a Gothic tabernacle pillar dating from around 1500. Those who appreciate historical details can connect various periods and forms of ecclesiastical architecture here.

A special attraction is the Weberkeller, with reliefs carved into loess. The depictions show historical, mythological and biblical scenes; the models included famous works of art such as the Verdun Altar. In addition, the Raritäten Private Museum Röschitz displays more than 5,000 exhibits on village life, customs and traditional crafts. Old radios, bicycles, mopeds and agricultural machinery make the collection vivid. Emmerich Grath and his wife have run the small private museum since 2003.

Wine, Cellar Lanes and Views

Röschitz can also be experienced through its wine culture. The town’s best-known wine is Grüner Veltliner, which achieves excellent quality with a particularly fruity bouquet on the bedrock soil. In the cellar lanes, winemakers invite visitors to tastings and offer a wide selection of their products to take away. At Bauers Kellerrast, refreshing water, fruity grape juice and well-chilled wine are available for self-service.

The Weinviertelwarte Röschitz stands out with its modern wine-tank shape. From its plateau, the view extends across the Schmidatal and Pulkautal valleys to Buschberg in the Leiser Berge, the Retz windmill, the Europawarte near Waitzendorf and the Waldviertel. This viewpoint complements the cultural and historical destinations with a wide view across the landscape.

Exploring Paths through the Weinviertel

The Erlebnisweg “bodenständig Röschitz – Wege zum Wein” leads through and around the wine-growing town across gentle hilly landscapes. It is well suited to a travel plan in which the town is discovered not only through individual buildings but also through its wine-growing landscape. For cyclists, the “Weinerlebnistour Retzer Land WEST” also passes through Röschitz. This makes it possible to combine cultural sightseeing, regional wine themes and physical activity as different focal points of a trip.

When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether you would mainly like to get to know Röschitz through art and history, wine and regional products, or paths and cycling tours. The available options give your trip different directions without requiring you to commit to just one type of experience.
