Holiday apartment in Tragjas: Cultural monuments and karst springs
Tragjas i Vjetër is a ruined village and a cultural monument in Tragjas. It is regarded as an open-air museum and a silent testimony to the past. The village retains a main road that runs through it along its entire length, as well as the outlines of former houses. The settlement, which once had 300 houses, extended along a hillside. Thus, Tragjas is notable not only for individual historical traces, but for an entire traditional settlement setting comprising the road, house foundations and its hillside location.
Culture
Another cultural reference is the cave between Dukat and Tragjas, which is listed as a cultural monument in Qarku i Vlorës. The range of designated cultural monuments therefore extends from the preserved settlement landscape to a single underground site between two villages. Living tradition is also explicitly associated with Tragjas: the village is one of those known for its dances, polyphonic singing and traditional costumes. Historical sites and traditional forms of expression thus stand side by side, without referring to the same type of cultural heritage.
Landscape
Gjon Boçari Castle stands on a prominent hill above the Dukat plain, as well as above Tragjas and Radhimë. From its defensive towers, the view extends across the Bay of Vlora, over the Dukat plain to Orikum, and along part of the road to Qafa e Llogarasë. The directions mentioned thus lead from the bay and the plain to Orikum and along a section of the road to Qafa e Llogarasë.
Rrepet e Izvorit is located near Tragjas Fushë, by numerous karst springs, and includes a small woodland with more than 100 ancient plane trees. The site is of particular biological, ecological, educational and tourist importance. The springs, woodland and ancient plane trees form the characteristic components of this landscape feature; the four areas of importance mentioned describe its special significance from natural, educational and tourism perspectives.
Routes
The “Tragjasit të Vjetër” route runs via Orikum, Rrepet e Izvorit in Tragjas, Tragjas i Vjetër and Gjon Boçari Castle. It is 8.5 km long and has a total elevation gain of 300 m. The route therefore connects several of the named locations in a fixed sequence and clearly indicates both the names of the stops and the length and total elevation gain of the route. Rrepet e Izvorit can be visited via the Vlorë–Tragjas Fushë main road.
