Lushnjë combines the history of modern Albania with the vast landscape of the Western Lowlands. The Congress Museum is located in the house where the Congress of Lushnjë met from January 21 to 31, 1920. The congress took place in the city in 1920 and is associated with the consolidation of the Albanian state and national institutions.

History

The Congress Museum is located in the heart of the city and preserves the house’s old urban architecture. Its holdings include original documents, historical photographs, and objects related to the delegates and the developments of that period. The Congress House was built in the first half of the 19th century and features a two-story design in the style of traditional berat houses. It opened as a house museum on January 21, 1960. Today, the Congress Museum offers an educational historical visitor experience.

Another notable site is the Historical Museum of Lushnjë. It documents local history from antiquity through the 1980s and preserves around 2,000 objects. These include archaeological remains, Neolithic objects and ethnographic artifacts. The collection also covers material related to local traditions, rural life, agrarian reform, education and healthcare. The museum was officially inaugurated on November 21, 1990.

The archaeological traces in the city area also date back a long way. The earliest object discovered there comes from the Chalcolithic period. In the Kadri Qystri neighborhood, traces of a settlement from the Illyrian city period were discovered in 1989. Traces of an early basilica and numerous pottery fragments were also found in Lushnjë; experts date its construction to approximately the 4th to 6th centuries AD.

Flowers were laid at the Memorial to Political Persecution in Lushnjë in memory of the victims and those who were politically persecuted during the communist dictatorship. Participants from Tirana and other participants who joined the tour directly in Lushnjë met there.

Landscape

Lushnjë is located in west-central Albania, in the heart of the Western Lowlands, on an extensive plain connected to the Adriatic coastal areas and the main cities of central Albania. Due to its geographical location and well-developed transport network, Lushnjë is considered easily accessible and an important connecting point in the region.

The fertile lowlands and the close connection with agriculture create favorable conditions for agritourism and rural tourism in Lushnjë. Visitors can discover local products, traditional cuisine and experiences connected with agricultural life. As a result, alongside the historical museums, the rural aspects of the city and its surroundings are also a focus.

Lake Kasharaj is located 2 km from Lushnjë, in the Karbunarë administrative unit. A bridge dating from the 12th to 13th century, which is still passable today, is located nearby. Lake Gjyshaj is 15 km from Lushnjë, in the Ballagat administrative unit and in a picturesque landscape near the Darsia hills. Lake Kupas is also 15 km away. It belongs to the Hysgjokaj administrative unit and is used for fishing and picnics.

The Church of Krutje is located near the Lushnjë–Fier road. It can be reached by small cars and buses.
