Dhërmi does not begin for visitors only at the beach. Cultural sites are located in the village and above it, while old village structures, caves, water sports and trails reveal further aspects of the destination. This makes it possible to discover different focal points side by side during a stay: traces of bygone eras, distinctive forms of the landscape, and activities on the water or along trails.

Culture

The Church of Saint Stephen in Dhërmi bears traces from the Byzantine period. Above the village of Dhërmi are the monastery and the Church of Saint Mary. In the old village, traditional stone architecture and characteristic alleyways preserve the historic identity of the place. The old village lies on the slopes of the mountain and offers impressive panoramic views over the Ionian Sea. The cultural impression therefore ranges from individual religious buildings to a historic village fabric whose architecture and alleyways are closely connected with the history of the place.

Nature

There are several karst caves along the village stream of Dhërmi that are of interest to visitors. Pirate’s Cave is located on Shën Todrit Hill and is about 30 metres long. It has historical and tourist value. Around Dhërmi Beach, the roads are surrounded by olive groves and mountains. Thus, caves, a distinctive hill, olive groves and mountain scenery appear in the same place as different landscape elements.

Coast and water

The national road separates the village of Dhërmi from Dhërmi Beach. Dhërmi Beach has areas with rounded stones and sections with fine sand. Diving is possible in clear water at Dhërmi Beach; there are also numerous opportunities for water sports and other water activities. The coast therefore combines different types of shoreline with specific activities on the water, while the village and beach are spatially separated from each other.

Hiking

The Southern Coastal Trail runs from Dhërmi almost to Saranda. A hike from Dhërmi begins on the main road near the bend that crosses the gorge. Along a simple, broad path from Dhërmi are several old mills and a waterfall. In addition to the extensive route of the Southern Coastal Trail, specific waypoints and a simple, broad path from Dhërmi are therefore also highlights.
