Between the Coast and the Castles
Borsh lies in a narrow depression above the seashore, and Borsh Castle dates back to the 4th century BC. Borsh is considered a green coastal area with an extensive beach and sea. Borsh Beach is considered the longest beach in the region.
The Borsh Stream, also known as Buronja e Malit, flows through Borsh’s coastal depression. In the Stenoi-Treppe neighborhood, houses are scattered among greenery and areas rich in water. A path through olive groves leads to Borsh Beach.
Culture and History
Borsh Castle stands on a cliff above Borsh. The Badhrës fortification lies below the main road at the exit from Borsh, on a hill approximately 250 meters above sea level. Badhrës Castle is attributed to the Late Bronze Age and dominated the surrounding gentle hills as well as the beaches of Borsh and Piqeras.
The earliest fortification phase of Sopot Castle dates back to the Late Bronze Age. In the 4th to 3rd century BC, the fortification of Sopot developed into an important urban center. The path to Sopot Castle is difficult and accessible only on foot.
For planning your trip, you can consider the coast, local layout, castles and hiking as separate areas of focus. Especially when traveling with children or several generations, you can organize the routes and historic sites described here according to your interests and preferred daily rhythm. Your choice of topics can be guided by the desired mix of coast, history and activity.
Other places: Kaninë, Qazim Pali, Piqeras, Himarë, Ilias, Dhërmi and Qeparo.
Trails and Hiking
When comparing holiday apartments in Borsh, you can review the travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions side by side on booking sites. Your decision can be based on your own plans, such as a desire for beach days, historical discoveries or a hike, without assuming a fixed itinerary.
You can consider the different types of paths separately when planning your days: One access route leads exclusively on foot to a castle, while a designated route connects several coastal towns and a section of beach. This gives you the option to focus separately on culture, landscape or activity.
The official hiking guide lists the Borsh–Piqeras–Bunec Beach–Lukovë route. On this route, the main path continues toward Bunec Beach as a wide, level, stony, unpaved track shaded by olive trees.
This allows you to give different emphasis to each day: The coast and scattered settlement pattern can be contrasted with historical exploration, while the route provides a separate focus for longer stretches of walking. Those combining several interests can consider these topics separately and still bring them together in a single trip. The places and trails described therefore do not constitute a fixed program, but rather several clearly distinguishable options for planning your own trip.
