Around Tiruppur, protected areas, reservoirs and temples come together. If you are looking for a holiday rental for your trip, you can start by asking what you want your stay to revolve around: birdlife and landscapes, water at a dam, or religious buildings and traditions. The facts point to different places in the district, not to a single, connected excursion area.

Birdlife, hills and water

The Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary covers 84,149 hectares and spans the districts of Coimbatore and Tiruppur. The part located in Tiruppur district covers 387 square kilometres and includes grassy hills, waterfalls, river courses, teak forests, dams and reservoirs. This variety makes the sanctuary an interesting destination for travellers who want to experience different types of landscapes. At the same time, its size helps put the sanctuary in perspective as a large protected area, rather than a single attraction.

The Nanjarayan Bird Sanctuary is one of the district’s distinct natural destinations. It covers 125.865 hectares and is an important breeding and feeding ground for resident and migratory birds. The lake there is fed by the Nallar River. Those particularly interested in birdlife and bodies of water will find a different focus here than at the extensive Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary. The two protected areas can therefore be considered as different themes for trip planning, without treating them as a single place to visit.

Waterfalls and dams each offer their own points of interest. The Panchalinga Waterfalls plunge from a height of five metres and are accessible via Thirumoorthy Temple Road. There are opportunities for boating at Thirumoorthy Dam; its reservoir was built across the Palar River, which rises on the northern slopes of the Anamalai Hills. Thirumoorthy Dam is suitable for a day trip from Tiruppur. If you are planning this excursion, you can take Tiruppur into account as a base when choosing a holiday rental.

Dams and distinctive wildlife

Amaravathi Dam is located in the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary in Tiruppur district. A significant population of marsh crocodiles lives in the reservoir and its catchment area. There is also a park at the dam. From there, visitors can climb steep steps for views of the northern plains, as well as the Anaimalai Hills and Palani Hills to the south. The steep steps are a defining feature of this viewpoint and are worth considering when deciding whether to include it in your itinerary.

Amaravathi Dam thus combines a scenic experience with the opportunity to learn more about the marsh crocodiles living there. The view also takes in a variety of landscapes: the plains to the north and the two hill ranges to the south. Compared with boating at Thirumoorthy Dam, the focus here is on the park, the views and the wildlife. These are different reasons to weigh the two dams separately when planning your trip.

Temples and regional traditions

Culture can also be a focus of your trip. Arulmigu Avinashi Lingeswarar Temple is considered the first of the seven Thevara Stalams in the Kongu region of Tamil Nadu. At Kaithamalai, near Uthukuli, devotees pull the temple chariot up the slopes. This tradition offers a different perspective on the district than its protected areas and waterways: the reason to visit lies in religious significance and a distinctive communal custom.

To explore the region further, you can also discover Tirupur and Avinashi. Tiruppur railway station has the station code TUP. Such place and transport names complement your choices, but do not replace the decision about which destinations you want your stay to revolve around. If nature and wildlife are your priorities, the protected areas and dams offer different highlights; for temples and traditions, the religious sites are the draw. So base your holiday rental search on the excursions you actually want to include in your trip.
