River Estuary and Delta in the Wider Area

In the wider region around Dongying, the Huanghekou Ecotourism Area (黄河口生态旅游区) lies at the current mouth of the Yellow River. It was established on the basis of the Shandong Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve. A 2024 operator description lists it as a national 5A-rated tourist attraction. The estuary and delta give this destination a clear connection to the landscape. Gardens with Different Themes

At the level of the associated township, Dongying Garden Expo (园博园) covers 98 hectares and features more than 30 exhibition gardens. The variety is therefore not just a matter of numbers: the exhibition is explicitly organised by different types of gardens and their sponsors. Huaxiangu Scenic Area (花仙谷景区) is also located at the level of the associated township and covers 460 mu. Its attractions include a petting park, a playground without motorised rides, “孔雀东南飞”, a bird park, a medicinal herb garden, a sea of flowers, a vegetable-growing area and a practical education centre. The range spans animals and play, plants, cultivation and hands-on learning. When planning a visit with children, you can consider whether these varied themes or a single focus should shape the outing. The playground is specifically described as having no motorised rides.

Boat Trips and Activities

Sightseeing trips by excursion boats and electric boats are offered along the Guangli River at the township level. These two types of boat offer a distinct way to make the river the focus of an outing. Also at the township level, Le Shi Bao Youth Sports and Health Base (乐仕堡青少年儿童运动健康基地) is located in the northeastern part of the park and covers 40,000 square metres. A 2026 report says it opened on 1 May and lists forest exploration nets, a floating trampoline, off-road karts, high ropes courses, an archaeological treasure hunt and a sand play area among its attractions. This activity-focused option differs from both the gardens and the river trips.
