Mudanjiang brings together distinctive urban themes: Russian-influenced decor, shopping, and dining sit alongside memorial sites and offerings connected to Korean culture. This is particularly evident on Dongyi Sino-Russian Style Street in the central business district. It is 946 metres long and has more than 1,400 shops. Leisure, shopping, dining, and sightseeing come together here—a practical starting point if you want to get to know urban Mudanjiang.

Cityscape, Culture, and Culinary Discoveries

The design of Dongyi Sino-Russian Style Street features bilingual Chinese-Russian signs and kiosks with gold-coloured roofs in a Russian style. The streetscape thus brings shopping and dining together with distinctive urban decor. Under the service brand “Relaxed in the Snow City,” Mudanjiang also offers a tourism service centre and 16 visitor pavilions. The services listed include luggage forwarding, professional guided tours, and dispute mediation. Details of the service network may change; check the specific services before your trip.

The culinary offerings also have different highlights. On the second floor of Dongyi Department Store, Zhonghua Street for Regional Specialties brings together well-known dishes and snacks from various parts of China. It is considered a popular destination for tourist photo stops. For culinary discoveries, Russian cuisine is recommended on Dongyi Sino-Russian Style Street, and Korean cuisine on Chaoxian Minzu Culture Street.

Chaoxian Minzu Culture Street features Korean-influenced signs, façades, and shop windows, colourful paths, and four photo walls along a 125-metre folk-style lane. The design may change through future renovations. Another gathering place for culture and leisure is Chaoxian National Culture Square: covering just under 5,000 square metres, it has a leisure area, a stage area, and a gateball area. The square accommodates 1,500 people and brings together culture, performances, dining, fitness, and entertainment. Facilities and programmes may change; check current dates and access requirements before planning a specific visit.

A more solemn note can be found in Jiangbin Park. A sculpture group there commemorates the eight women who threw themselves into the river; it is a national memorial site for martyrs. The Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Hall and Mudanjiang Culture and Tourism Experience House are intended to serve as showcases for the city’s culture and regional characteristics.

City Activities and Nature in the Wider Mudanjiang Travel Area

In the wider Mudanjiang travel area, San Dao Guan National Forest Park lies in Aimin District, northwest of the urban area. It covers 8,000 hectares; the elevation figures range from an average of 300 metres to 742 metres. A tourism description dated 13 July 2026 lists activities by the stream in the park: playing there, hiking via steps to Yixiantian and Zhuangyuan Ding, and camping and barbecuing by the stream. This offers a different focus from the city’s street and cultural attractions.

The wider area also includes the Mudanjiang Border Wall in the San Dao Guan area. The section is 38.629 kilometres long and runs through several villages in Aimin District. A description dated 25 May 2020 stated that thirteen sections were open to tourism; check current access regulations before visiting.

Another regional story is told at Dong’an 1946 Culture and Creative Park. It was created by redeveloping the former site of the Mudanjiang Woodworking Machinery Factory. Founded in 1946, the factory was the second-largest woodworking machinery site in Asia at the time. The park brings together cultural and creative industries, exhibitions, sport and fitness, dining, and bars; its uses and mix of offerings may change.
