Heihe: River Park, Culture and Winter Experiences
Accommodation in Heihe
Heihe brings together the Heilongjiang River, extensive parkland and a diverse perspective on the region’s history. At Heilongjiang Park, you can explore a long stretch of green space along the river; museums and memorials add their own cultural highlights. Winter activities in the park also give a trip a distinctive focus. Which of these themes interests you most may shape your search for a holiday rental in Heihe.
Heilongjiang Park by the River
Heilongjiang Park lies in the northern part of the urban area and stretches along the Heilongjiang River. It is 3,100 metres long and covers an area of 42.5 hectares. The park is therefore a defining landscape feature of Heihe. When planning your trip, you can make spending an extended period outdoors a focus here, separate from the museums’ historical themes.
The park’s northern section is designed as the botanical garden area of Dahihe Island. A pedestrian bridge and a road bridge connect it to the island. Heihe Pier is at the park’s western entrance. Various excursion boats, as well as cargo and passenger ships, are moored there on the river. The park, island area and pier each represent a different aspect of the riverside landscape: landscaped green spaces, a link to the island and boats on the water.
Winter also changes the character of a visit to the park. Activities for this season include snow and ice experiences, such as ice and snow sculptures and rides on ice sledges. If these experiences are important to your trip, you can consider them as a particular interest when deciding where to stay in Heihe. The park is also listed in Heihe’s municipal park directory for 2025.
City History and Exhibitions
Heihe Museum is located in Aihui District at 241 Hailan Street. Its exhibitions cover the region’s natural products, its history, and its economic and social development. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions from Heilongjiang and other regions of China, including educational and popular science offerings. Its themes thus range from nature and regional history to social and economic change.
The Memorial Hall for Chinese Emigrants to Russia offers another historical perspective. It is housed in the former Tongji Pawnshop, which is designated as an important protected cultural heritage site in Heilongjiang Province. The memorial hall is classified as a national second-grade museum. Its permanent exhibition is titled “Historical Exhibition on Chinese Emigrants to Russia and Russian Students Studying in the Soviet Union.” The title itself makes the exhibition’s themes clear: emigration to Russia and study in the Soviet Union form its historical framework.
Wangsu Park is home to a tower commemorating Soviet Red Army soldiers who died in the defeat of Japanese imperialism and the liberation of Heihe in northeast China. The park is also the site of the tomb of Wangsu, the first commander of the Heihe Military District and the first Party secretary of Heihe District, who died fighting bandits. The two memorial sites commemorate different historical stories. Wangsu Park is also listed in the municipal park directory for 2025.
More to Discover in the Surrounding Area
On the opposite bank of the Heilongjiang lies Blagoveshchensk, the third-largest city in Russia’s Far East and the capital of Amur Oblast. Heihe’s water transport port faces the city. This location gives the river geographical significance for Heihe beyond its parkland.
The Chinese-Russian Folk Culture Park is located in the area around Heihe and was classified as a national 4A tourist attraction in October 2020. Its initial design included an Oroqen area, a film production base, an artificial landscape lake, a Russian street and an Eight Banners maze. These features provide themes of their own alongside the riverside parks and city museums. Heihe-Aihui Night Market was recognised as a provincial-level leisure and tourism street.
When choosing a holiday rental in Heihe, you can therefore consider what you want your trip to focus on: the parkland along the Heilongjiang, winter snow and ice activities, or the city’s history and exhibitions. If you also include the Chinese-Russian Folk Culture Park in your travel plans, there is another cultural attraction in the surrounding area.
