Geghadir: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Geghadir is located on the western slope of the Voghjaberd Mountains. The village is the most common starting point for the hike to Azhdahak. The Azhdahak route from Geghadir covers 18–20 kilometers there and back and takes approximately 8–10 hours.

Hiking

A difficult and scenic 23.3-kilometer hike from Garni to Voghjaberd passes through Hatsavan and Geghadir. The route via the Geghama Plateau has no formal trail markings; downloading a GPS track is therefore essential. A vehicle with high ground clearance is required for the upper road to the Geghama Plateau.

Geographical Location

Geghadir lies at an elevation of 1,880 meters above sea level and is located on the Yerevan–Garni highway. Kotayk combines historical monuments, scenic landscapes, hiking trails, and cultural experiences. From Yerevan, the region can be reached by car, taxi, minibus, or bus, as well as on organized tours.

Culture

The S. Hovhannes Chapel in Geghadir was built in 2009. A khachkar dating from the 12th–13th century is also recorded in Geghadir.

History

Geghadir was formerly called Kyarpichlu and was renamed in 1935.
