Gyoryongsan: Mountain Scenery and Fortress
At 518 metres high, Gyoryongsan is the centrepiece of the Gyoryongsan National Tourist Site. The fortress of Gyoryongsanseong stands on its ridge; its first fortifications date back to the Baekje period. Seongguksa Temple lies within the fortress. It was founded in 685, the fifth year of the reign of King Sinmun of the Silla period. The mountain, fortifications and temple bring together landscape and architectural history in one place, while the two historical dates mark different periods of the past.
At the Gyoryongsan National Tourist Site, a walking trail runs along approximately 3 kilometres of the fortress wall. This lets you plan your visit as a route through the mountain landscape, with the wall itself providing a connection to history. Space Exploration and AirRail for a Different Kind of Trip
The Namwon Aircraft & Space Observatory offers a distinct focus: it has an exhibition hall on the history of space exploration, a flight experience hall and a planetarium with a 10-metre dome. It shows images of the night sky and the entire sky. Guided tours and experience programmes are available for groups, including 4D films about the sun and celestial bodies, virtual flight experiences and astronomy lectures. The Namwon AirRail is a 2.44-kilometre monorail with three stations: Chunhyang Theme Park in the Namwon Tourism Resort, the Hampawoo Korean Music Experience Center and the Namwon Aircraft & Space Observatory. As the train travels along its elevated route, passengers can take in the scenery of Namwon; the railway reaches a maximum height of 11.2 metres.
