Los Cerrillos can be explored through two distinct cultural facets: local history reflected in buildings associated with property, education and the church, and the Carnaval Gaucho, with riding competitions, a parade and artistic performances. The mix ranges from precisely dated histories of buildings and institutions to an event whose dates matter when planning a trip.

Buildings shaped by local history and education

The Casa de la Cultura is a historic building from the late 19th century, closely connected with education. It originally housed the Víña y Cámera shop. From 17 October 1914, it housed the rural coeducational first-grade primary school No. 6 (Los Cerrillos al Este); this later became the urban second-grade school No. 123. These chapters connect the building with commerce and different periods in the history of education.

The Casa de la Cultura was inaugurated on 3 August 1996 during celebrations marking the centenary of Los Cerrillos. Its location is also precisely established: the building is opposite the main square. The Casa de la Cultura houses the María Perucchi municipal library, with more than 2,000 volumes and a reading room. If you plan to visit the library, check its availability in advance.

Another historical landmark is the Fortín de Veracierto. It was a former estancia manor house belonging to Domingo Veracierto. This distinguishes it from the Casa de la Cultura, whose history is closely linked with commerce and education: the Fortín can be understood through its former function and owner.

The Iglesia Parroquial San Miguel Arcángel is also part of local history. Construction was completed on 3 December 1899. For those interested in culture, several themes come together here: the former use of an estancia manor house, the history of a building connected with education, and a church built on a precisely recorded date. The specific dates give each of these connections its own historical context.

Carnaval Gaucho: Festive Tradition and Programme

The Carnaval Gaucho has been held on the grounds of the Sociedad Criolla “Manuel Ledesma” in Los Cerrillos since 1975. Festivities include jineteadas and rein-handling competitions in the “José María ‘Nito’ Acosta” arena. On the first day, a traditional gaucho cavalry parade makes its way through the streets of Los Cerrillos. The Carnaval also features artistic performances by payadores and popular musicians.

The Carnaval offers a different way to experience the town from its architectural and educational history: here, the focus is on an event and its various programme elements. If the festival is the reason for your trip, check the dates and current programme locally before planning around them.

When looking for a holiday rental in Los Cerrillos, you can start by considering which of these themes you want to shape your trip. If you are interested in cultural history, the buildings and their different stories take centre stage; if you want to travel for the Carnaval Gaucho, the confirmed festival date will be important for your plans. This way, you can align your destination and travel dates with what interests you most about Los Cerrillos.
