Villavicencio can be explored along routes with very different courses: one circuit leads from the city centre to the Monumento a Cristo Rey, another passes places along Caño Parrado, and the Vereda del Carmen route stretches across several named stops. There are also walking paths in Parque Los Fundadores and the special religious significance of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Which of these aspects interests you most may shape your travel plans and choice of holiday rental.

City routes with different courses

The Cristo Rey route starts in the city centre at Parque Infantil. From there, stone steps lead to the Monumento a Cristo Rey, which offers a view of the city. The route then passes the Concha Acústica Arnulfo Briceño and returns to the centre along a paved road. As a circuit, it is 1,255 metres long. Its course thus links a viewpoint and the named stops with a return to the centre.

La Escalinata starts in Barrio El Triunfo at Carrera 42. The route crosses the bridge over Caño Parrado, runs through La Pradera and passes the Cueva del Cachicamo. It is 1,740 metres long. The places named along the way give this route a different character from the Cristo Rey circuit: here, the bridge, neighbourhood and cave shape the course.

At 9,533 metres, the Vereda del Carmen route is considerably longer than the other two. It starts at the upper end of the road by Villacentro shopping centre. The path passes beneath the road to Bogotá, climbs to the school in Vereda del Carmen, continues to Vereda Samaria and descends to Buenavista. Its ascent and descent, as well as the sequence of places, clearly distinguish it from the shorter city routes.

The distances make comparison easy: Cristo Rey’s 1,255 metres and La Escalinata’s 1,740 metres contrast with Vereda del Carmen’s 9,533 metres. When planning, you can consider the route as well as the distance: a viewpoint and return to the centre, several stops around Caño Parrado, or a longer route with an ascent and descent offer different highlights.

Park paths and religious architecture

Parque Los Fundadores has walking paths for active or leisurely strolls. The park also has a fountain and more than 200 parking spaces. If you plan to park during your visit, check current availability. The paths offer a different way to spend time outdoors from the routes described above: you can choose between an active stroll and a more relaxed walk.

Nuestra Señora del Carmen is also a prominent landmark for exploring Villavicencio’s culture. Among the archdiocese’s 76 religious institutions, the church is considered the most representative religious building both in Villavicencio and in the Department of Meta. This distinction gives the site special standing if you would like to include religious architecture in your explorations alongside the routes and park paths.

Tailor your stay to your interests

The places described offer different highlights, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one way of exploring: the two shorter routes pass specific places in the city, Vereda del Carmen offers a considerably longer course, and Parque Los Fundadores adds walking paths suited to different kinds of stroll. Nuestra Señora del Carmen offers a religious and cultural perspective. When choosing your holiday rental, consider which of these interests you want to shape your stay most. That way, you can tailor your search to the trip you have in mind rather than choosing accommodation separately from your plans.
