Itaí
Accommodation in Itaí
Itaí combines the water-shaped character of the Jurumirim Reservoir with regional culture and remarkable lychee production. The damming of the Rio Paranapanema borders almost half of the municipality and creates numerous beaches, as well as opportunities for entertainment, relaxation and water sports. There is also a history museum, rodeo traditions and products from the rural surroundings. This means you can discover Itaí as a destination to suit a wide range of interests.
Waterscapes and nautical activities
The Jurumirim Reservoir is considered one of Itaí’s most important tourist assets. It is associated with nautical, nature-based, gastronomic, rural and contemplative experiences. At the same time, it offers favorable natural conditions for developing sports, leisure and recreational activities on the water. This variety makes the reservoir a defining feature for anyone who wants to put water and nature at the heart of their trip.
History and living traditions
The Museu da Memória Histórica de Itaí – Prof. Élcio Luiz de Melo was established by Municipal Law No. 1,017 on April 23, 1997. Its collection was temporarily housed in the Barracão da Cultura at Parque Mauro Roberto de Moraes, a former auction site. The museum’s name and its establishment give Itaí’s history a tangible presence; the collection’s temporary location is also part of that story.
Another cultural facet is the Festa do Peão, which celebrates sertanejo culture and rodeo traditions. At the 33rd Festa do Peão de Itaí, the national Cutiano rodeo final was held, along with bull riding. The event took place from October 31 to November 3 and drew a large audience. The traditional Festa de Santo Antônio in Itaí was scheduled to host events for locals and tourists from June 10 to 16, starting at 8 p.m. each day. Both festival traditions offer insight into different occasions in community life.
Lychees and regional products
Itaí is known as the “NATIONAL CAPITAL OF LYCHEE” because of its production and export performance. At Fazenda Coatiara in the municipality of Itaí, Britchis produces lychee cachaça, lychee nuts and freeze-dried lychees. Fresh fruit intended for the domestic and international markets is also produced. These different forms—processed, freeze-dried and fresh—show the versatility of the fruit in local production.
Casa Soncini is also part of the municipality’s culinary and tourism scene: the business is part of the Rota do Vinho of the São Paulo State Secretariat for Tourism and Travel. Alongside the lychee products, this adds a regional food-and-drink perspective to the water-related and cultural themes. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider whether you would like to discover Itaí mainly for the reservoir, its festival traditions or its agricultural products.
Which focus suits your trip?
If you are looking for a vacation rental in Itaí, it helps to first decide what kind of stay you want. The Jurumirim Reservoir appeals to those interested in nautical activities, nature and contemplation; the museum and festivals bring history and tradition to the fore. Lychee products and the Rota do Vinho add regional produce to the mix.
