Cubatão between the Atlantic Forest and industrial history
Accommodation in Cubatão
Cubatão brings together very different impressions: Atlantic Forest vegetation, a tall waterfall, routes through the Serra do Mar and traces of industrial history. It is also located in the Baixada Santista, whose cycling tourism route passes through Cubatão. This raises an initial question as you plan your trip: would you like to focus on nature and landscapes, historic sites, or a combination of these themes?
Atlantic Forest and waterfall
Parque Ecológico do Perequê covers 168 hectares and is surrounded by Atlantic Forest vegetation. Within the park is Cachoeira Véu da Noiva, an 80-meter-high waterfall. The park and waterfall give Cubatão’s natural attractions specific names and a sense of scale: the picture of the place includes both an extensive area and a distinctive, easily identifiable landscape feature.
Another way to make landscapes a focus is the Trilha da Cachoeira da Torre. It is 4.5 kilometers long and offers views of the Baixada Santista. Alongside the waterfall in Parque Ecológico do Perequê, this provides a named route with its own length and expansive views. If you like to consider different natural attractions when planning a vacation, you can use these two details as separate points of reference when making your choices.
Routes and waterscapes
The Caminhos do Mar route, also known as Estrada Velha de Santos, crosses the Serra do Mar. It is 8 kilometers long and runs between São Bernardo do Campo and Cubatão. Cycling tourism offers another regional connection: Cubatão is part of the corresponding route in the Baixada Santista. Together, these details show that routes encompass both the mountain landscape and the wider region. Their lengths and courses, however, apply to each individual route.
Píer do Jardim Casqueiro is another feature of the town’s waterscapes. It extends 70 meters over the bed of the Rio Casqueiro and runs for about 240 meters above the water before reconnecting with the waterfront promenade. These measurements describe a specific built structure and distinguish this landmark from the scenic routes through the Serra do Mar.
Traces of industrial and local history
Usina Henry Borden was inaugurated in 1926 and is one of the most significant landmarks of Brazilian hydroelectric engineering. It brings Cubatão’s technological history into focus. Another historical site is Rancho da Maioridade: the building was constructed in 1922 and is known as Casa da Marquesa de Santos. These names refer to distinct historic sites and should not be combined into a single sightseeing attraction.
More traces of the past can be found at two places with histories of their own. Parque Anilinas preserves the remains of Fábrica de Anilinas e Produtos Químicos do Brasil, founded in 1916. Roteiro THIP follows a route around the historic ruins of the former Vila de Itutinga in Cubatão. When putting together a cultural itinerary, you can distinguish between preserved factory remains, a route around ruins and the named historic buildings.
Choosing the right focus for your stay
When looking for a vacation rental in Cubatão, you can use your planned outings and their respective distances as a guide for organizing your days. This way, you can start your search with the kind of trip you want, rather than treating the different themes as a single experience.
