Discover Banquete: Rock Monolith, Waterfalls and Festivals
Accommodation in Banquete
Banquete combines a striking rock monolith with waterfalls and its own festival tradition. Pedra de Santa Tereza is a gigantic rock monolith and ranks among the largest rock monoliths in the mountain region of the state of Rio de Janeiro. There are also hikes and climbing routes on the rock, the Circuito das Águas de Santa Tereza with three waterfalls, and local festivals. If you are planning a holiday rental for your trip, these different attractions may shape your decision: scenery, activity, water or culture.
Pedra de Santa Tereza: Rock and Geotourism
The Caminhos Geológicos project highlights Pedra de Santa Tereza in Banquete, the 3rd District, as one of Bom Jardim’s geotourism sites. The monolith thus combines its geological significance with its designation as a tourist attraction. Hiking and climbing routes of varying difficulty are possible on the rock. When choosing an activity, you can therefore consider both the type of activity and its level of difficulty. Hiking and climbing offer different experiences, while the rock remains the shared natural feature.
Three Waterfalls on the Circuito das Águas de Santa Tereza
The Circuito das Águas de Santa Tereza includes three waterfalls in Barra de Santa Tereza. The first is on Fazenda Santo Antonio da Barra. Below the waterfall, a small dam creates a pool suitable for swimming. If you are planning a visit, check the current access conditions.
The second waterfall is at Sítio Santa Tereza. The second waterfall at Sítio Santa Tereza is considered a photo spot; a relaxing “hydromassage” may also be possible. The difference matters when choosing an experience: swimming in the pool is mentioned for the first waterfall, while photos and the expressly tentative possibility of a hydromassage are the focus at the second.
A Cycling Tour as Part of an Event
At the 1º Pedal da Associação da Barra de Santa Tereza, Option 4 followed mostly flat terrain along the Rio Grande to Banquete. This option was 10.64 kilometres long, included 56 metres of elevation gain and was considered suitable for beginners. These details refer to this event option. Compared with the hikes and climbing routes at Pedra, for which varying levels of difficulty are given, the route length and elevation gain here provide a specific planning benchmark.
Festivals and Their Dates
The Festa de Banquete began as a community celebration for the district and is held annually by the Prefeitura de Bom Jardim. The edition planned for 1 and 2 August 2026 was cancelled on 29 July 2026. If you want to include future festival dates in your travel plans, check the announced dates before planning your stay around them.
A programme report dated 6 December 2024 states that, on the first day of the traditional Festa da Padroeira of the Paróquia Nossa Senhora da Conceição, a Mass was held in Banquete at 19:30. This links another religious festival tradition to a specific programme event, whose timing pertains to the festival programme reported at the time.
